Release: 3rd January 2003 WELSH BEEF DOMINATES DUTCH MARKET AT CATERING EXHIBITION IN HOLLAND - ON WELSH BEEF DAY Branded farm assured Welsh Beef will take centre-stage at the Horecava catering exhibition hosted in Holland [5- 8 Jan 2003] when VEN International Versmarket [VEN], a top class catering distributor and retailer, dedicates Monday 6th Jan 2003 as the very first "Welsh Beef Day", reports farmer cooperative Welsh Lamb & Beef Promotions Ltd [WLBP]. VEN is one of Europe's largest high quality catering distributors and retailers whose customers include high-class restaurants and hotels throughout Holland. Ven is a major customer of Welsh Lamb & Beef Promotions Ltd and was first supplied with Welsh Beef, sourced from Welsh farms and processed by St Merryn Foods, back in 2000, which was heralded as the first commercial and sustainable export deal post the BSE export ban, worth in excess of £3 million pounds. The sales of Welsh Beef developed very well until the orders were then halted, as a result of the export ban on beef due to the foot and mouth crisis in the UK back in 2001. In September last year, [Wed 25 Sept] WLBP, and St Merryn Foods of Merthyr Tydfil were successful in getting the first consignment of beef from the UK [Welsh Beef] exported to Europe and to VEN. Don Thomas, Managing Director of the farmer cooperative Welsh Lamb & Beef Promotions Ltd, is delighted that it's customer VEN continues to demonstrate it's confidence in the Welsh Beef brand and he states: "Having re-introduced Welsh beef exports to Holland it is vital that we support our importer VEN to promote and market Welsh Beef to their customers. This important exhibition at Horecava will enable us to do just that." Ends Note to editor: Please direct all press enquiries to Lynda James at Welsh Lamb & Beef Promotions Ltd on: |
